The Housing Authority County of San Joaquin will be awarded 232 Emergency Housing Vouchers (EHV) through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The EHVs will provide rental assistance to individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness; at risk of experiencing homelessness; fleeing, or attempting to flee, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking; or were recently homeless and for whom providing rental assistance will prevent the family’s homelessness or having high risk of housing instability.
Individual and Family Eligibility under the Qualifying Categories
In order to be eligible for an EHV, an individual or family must meet one of the following four eligibility categories:
- At risk of homelessness
- Fleeing, or attempting to flee, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault,stalking, or human trafficking
- Recently homeless and for whom providing rental assistance will prevent thefamily’s homelessness or having high risk of housing instability.
Pre-screening of individuals or families claiming to meet one of the four qualifying categories will be conducted by contacting 2-1-1 San Joaquin County. 2-1-1 San Joaquin County will make the direct referral to the Housing Authority and can be contacted by dialing 211 from a telephone. Verification that the family meets one of the four eligible categories for EHV assistance will be requested. The Housing Authority will perform program eligibility. 2-1-1 San Joaquin County will start accepting referrals on June 1, 2021. The Housing Authority is not able to accept direct referrals from individuals and families.
